YANKEE STADIUM






Yankee Stadium is the home of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees. The stadium is located in the bronx area of New York City. The stadium opened in 1923 and closed in 1973 for renovations. The stadium reopened in 1976 and closed again in 2008. Yankee Stadium has a long 85 year history of events that range from baseball to football and boxing. The Yankees will open a new stadium in April 2009, that's located across the street from the original.

1. April 18, 1923: first game at Yankee Stadium, Yankees beat Redsox 4-1.
2. 1927: Babe Ruth's 60th homerun.
3. November 10, 1928: University of Notre Dame defeats favored Army 12-6, after coach Knute Rockne gives his famous win one for the gipper speach.
4. July 4, 1939: Lou Gehrig day.
5. June 22, 1938: Joe Louis defeats Max Schmeling.
6. 1956: Don Larson's perfect game in the World Seris.
7. December 28, 1958: the Baltimore Colts defeated the New York Giants 23-17 in overtime. This game is called by many as the greatest game ever played.
8. October 1, 1967: Roger Maris hit his 61 homerun.
9. May 14, 1967: Mickey Mantles 500th homerun.
10.1978: Reggie Jackson hits three home runs in World Seris game.
11. October 14, 1976: Chris Chambliss hits walk off homerun against the Kansas City Royals to win the American League Championship.
12. August 4, 2007: Alex Rodriguez's 500th home run.
13. 37 world series hosted in it's history.
14. All Star Game 1939, 1960, 1977, 2008.
15. September 21, 2008: Last game at Yankee Stadium, Yankees defeat Baltimore Orioles 7-3.
